Program: Jim Boyko’s 2018 Predictions
Pres. Mike introduced our very own Jim Boyko, who proceeded to review his success rate for last year’s predictions.

Jim was wrong when he predicted that the Leafs would not make the playoffs, but surprisingly right with his prediction that the New England Patriots would win the Superbowl, together with being right on his other sports predictions.
Jim’s other predictions on domestic and international politics and economics were mixed, but he got most of them correct. He did not see Andrew Scheer coming out of nowhere to snag the leadership of the federal Conservatives. Who knew?

Jim moved on to his 2018 predictions.
In sports, he predicted this time that the Leafs will make it into the second round of playoffs, but would not win the cup. The other Toronto teams would fare no better, and Jim predicted that New England would repeat in this year’s Superbowl.

In politics,
Jim predicted that Morneau will not continue to be finance minister next year. In the U.S. mid-terms, he predicted that the Republicans will maintain control of the Senate, but will lose control of the House. In addition, there would be no border wall and no North Korean conflict.

Jim sees Russia as continuing to meddle in other countries’ elections and getting together with China economically now that the U.S. has turned isolationist. Jim also predicts that the E.U. and the U.K. will both be fine economically, but perhaps with some minor bumps in the road.

Locally, Jim predicts that Toronto house prices will remain flat, and the auto pact may be in trouble depending on the NAFTA decision.

The Canadian Dollar is expected to stay below the 80 cent mark, interest rates will increase, and oil will stay in the mid to high 50's. Jim is predicting a minor correction in the stock market.

As for stock predictions, Jim recommended Apple, Disney, Northland Power, R.B.C., Paramount Resources, Dollarama, Bank of Nova Scotia, and BMO covered calls.

There were a lot of questions following Jim’s talk as it is always very well received.

President Mike thanked Jim for a very interesting and informative presentation.

The meeting was terminated.
