We partnered with TO-THE WORLD and a Healthcare foundation in Uganda where we championed a District grant with 3 other Rotary clubs to purchase 2 portable ultrasound machines plus cost associated towards running the program.

In the remote area of Kigezi in Uganda, most women get no formal healthcare at any time and often are HIV positive without knowing until it’s too late, particularly as they are likely to pass on the infection to their child at or prior to birth. This program offers ultrasound screening and other testing including for HIV. If someone is found positive, they are enrolled in a treatment program which offers them the retroviral drugs for their entire life. The result is potentially eliminating the mother child transmission of HIV, much better maternal and child survival after childbirth and long term quality of life improvement.
