Friday April 27th

Chair: Mike Mushet

Anthem: Alan Meredith

Grace: Peter Masson

Attendance: 8, no guests

Announcements:

o Basil Dias updated us on the luncheon location: He indicated that Baton Rouge is currently doing a study to determine if they can continue to serve lunch to our club on Wednesday. No decision has been made yet as they require a minimum of 20 attendees to make it worthwhile.

o Peter Masson said the Park clean-up last Saturday was a success. There were 4 participants from our club and Arthur was represented by his daughter. Lots of hot chocolate, cookies and lemonade were served. A very good turnout from students as well.

o Peter also indicated that the Paul Harris Scholarship Awards program is financially short this year. Rotarians for the participating clubs will be personally contributed to assist in the shortfall. Peter contributed $500.

o President Mike announced that Directors’ meeting is on Monday, April 30th at 6:30 pm at Baton Rouge Restaurant.

o President Mike also indicated that there were 4 attendees from our club to the Mayor lunch last week.

Marbelous Draw:

Gordon won the consolation prize of $5.

SAA – Gerd Wengler

We had no speaker today and Gerd suggested that instead of a fine or happy bucks, each member can tell the group “What’s on your mind”.

* Basil was wondering why Dorothy was driving his Matrix instead of her Benz. Hmm...”Is she going to hit my vehicle”? To his curiosity, she did back into a post. Dorothy is OK.

* Peter Masson is hoping that someday in the near future that someone will take over his role in the Paul Harris Scholarship Award event. He indicated that this year so far everything is running smoothly and they have some good candidates.

* Alan was curious on Snowy Owls: How do they get here and why do they have to be flown back to the north?

* Gerd, being quit knowledgeable on the subject as he had flown them back on many occasions to Thunder Bay, give us a detailed background on the subject. To summarize, he said that snowy owls are flown to the north as they are susceptible to the West Nile Virus. Believe it or not, they are afraid of humans. Snowy Owls look like they have no neck but quite the contrary. They have long necks in the shape of an “S”. Their eyes are oval shape and can see farther ahead while their ear channels go in different angles and can triangulate noises.

* Dhanni is working diligently on her son’s move to the UK.

* Barry thanked our “speaker”, Gerd and said it was a fantastic meeting when we get to know more about our fellow Rotarians.

* Mike talked about his downtown condo board meeting having a small surplus and is happy that the Owner Occupied ratio is improving from 29% to 41% which will cause the value of the property to increase.

Joke of the day:

A woman got on a bus, holding a baby.

The bus driver said, "That's the ugliest baby I've ever seen."

In a huff, the woman slammed her fare into the fare box and took an aisle
seat near the rear of the bus.

The man seated next to her sensed that she was agitated and asked her what
was wrong.

"The bus driver insulted me," she fumed.

The man sympathized and said, "Why, he's a public servant and shouldn't say
things to insult passengers."

"You're right," she said. "I think I'll go back up there and give him a piece of my mind."

"That's a good idea," the man said. "Here, let me hold your monkey."
