Rocco - Club Service Committee - Talked about the importance of meeting at members homes each month.  POD system is working quite well.  Rocco described POD responsibilities.  Last person to person meeting was March 12th.  Charter Party and Fireside have been put on hold.  Rocco hope that Group meetings would continue. Basil will give Baton Rouge a call them a call and fill Club members in.  Gerd proposed selling gift certificates to help them with cash                                flow.  Members stated they were not open.

See the source imageArthur - Community Service Committee - Update on Continuing, Cancelled and Postponed Programs – Arthur had surveyed Committee members yesterday.  Paul Harris award dinner is cancelled but the Paul Harris Scholarships will continue.  Park clean-up and church lunch programs have been cancelled as are BBQ and Adventures in Citizenship.  Arthur listed the people funded and constraints in Appendix A.  David Seemungal stated that the need for the Malvern Presbyterian Church was great and the need is larger.  David will get a request letter                              from Minister.  Jury is proceeding with the evaluation of the $2,500 Paul Harris Scholarships.

Steve Zelinski funds may be dedicated to another Scholarship but this item should be forwarded to next year.  Students will be off to University in December in terms of moving the dinner to another time. Frank pointed out that the money would be put to good use and supported by Steve’s family for pandemic needs.  Family doesn’t really mind where it goes.  Arthur will review with Committee.  Danny gave an update about the Ride to Conquer Cancer.  Basil suggested that Danny still send out a request for funds from members. Peter Masson also pointed out the need to consider the Rotary Foundation for International needs.

David Seemungal - International Service Committee - Update on Projects.  The Trinidad Project oxygen concentrators donation is being on hold with respect to the Trinidad Palliative Care Clinic.  The Clinic is taking in Covid 19 patients.  David suggested that funds be redirected for use during the pandemic.  Rather than dedicating the funds to the Rotary Foundation allocate the funds to Agincourt Community Service.  The suggesting was to have an International Service Committee to provide direction.  The support for Ghana and the                                    Bahamas Abaco hurricane recovery was pointed out.

Barry Smith- Auction Update (in Kevin's Absence) – Leaders have been bogged down with the Pandemic and the second wave may be an issue in the fall.  The Committee will be meeting as Zoom meetings.  The Maple Leaf Tickets may be given up.  There is a cost of $16,000 per seat + the cost of the ticket.  So, there may not be tickets this year.  Tickets were a major fundraiser last year, so we have an issue.  Will try to get the committee back up and running.

Gordon Brown - Membership Committee - The Challenges to Membership of the COVID-19 crisis.  Said there is little to report.  Can’t actively recruit.  Retaining new members might be good through Zoom.   Phone calls are needed.

After the presentations, Barry asked for questions from the membership by the raising of virtual hands, which questions would be fielded by the Chair and then answered by the relevant presenters.

Peter Masson - Our Sgt.-at-Arms asked for "Happy Thoughts".   Those thoughts….

  • Peter.  Books that we are re-reading – such as the Joy of Cooking
  • Peter. Meetings with investment advisor and are we reading Arthur’s science updates
  • Arthur’s sister’s daughter came down with Covid 19.  All of her family got Covid 19 but they got through it.  He has a park that he views from the 6th floor and saw a racoon that didn’t give a damn.
  • Danny Australia and New Zealand by cruise.  Cruise was shut down under the wire.
  • Alan also dodged a bullet.  Also, Joan Manuel – couldn’t get back from Australia from New Zealand.
  • Gerd stated he is much more aware of the little things, such as observing the first robin building a nest.  Great meeting with Tony in Florida.
  • Frank now has a great grandchild.
  • Tony had a new granddaughter.  She was sick and the Reno Children’s Hospital did platelet transfusions that worked as the miracle of medicine.
  • Maddy re-connected with Anna Maria Korel.   Asked if we can invite guests to the Zoom meetings?  Barry said yes as it is what we would do as part of the regular meeting.

President Barry then concluded with a thank you to all presenters and attendees, and announced next weekly program content – speaker is Chris Hawk, Argo Rotary Youth Leadership Day that we donated to in the past.  Arthur said that the Zoo, named the wombat after him.
Danny to host the Group meeting on the 13th.
Marbelous Draw: We are all healthy.
