Attendance: 15 members. 1 guest.

President Donna opened the meeting.

Anthem: Dhanni

Grace: Barry

Toast to the Queen, Canada and Rotary – President Donna

Guests: President Donna asked Rocco to introduce his guest – who was his wife Lillian.

Announcements:

* Donna asked Kevin Manuel to the podium for two items:

 Club By-Laws.

Kevin had already emailed the By-Laws to everyone. He first asked for a motion on ‘how’ to vote (show of hands, secret ballot etc.) Mike proposed ‘show of hands’ and Barry seconded. Kevin then asked for any discussion – of which there was none. A motion to close discussion was proposed by Mike and seconded by Peter. Mike then proposed we accept the By-Laws and Danny seconded. Everyone was in favour.

Kevin thanked all who participated. He reported that an average of 60% was obtained on the value of the items. The total revenue was approximately $45,500. The pick-up rate was 99.8% which has never been achieved before. He estimated that our Club’s share will be approx. $22,000 gross with a net of $15,000 plus sponsorships. The cost to ‘go to air’ of this Auction was approx. $35,000 which was offset by sponsorships of which the producers obtained $25,000 from one sponsor. Kevin will be asking for opinions as to ‘what went wrong’ and ‘what went right’ to help with the post mortem of the Auction.

Marbelous Draw.

Rocco conducted the draw. Lillian drew the winning ticket which Gordon claimed, but failed to find the mutant marble. $5 was given as a consolation.

Sergeant-At-Arms:

Basil was SAA today. He was not going to fine anyone, but asked everybody for Happy Bucks from everyone.  Danny was happy to comply. Gordon gave back his $5 winnings. Gerd donated some ‘unhappy’ bucks as both Gerd’s and Gordon’s (who was sitting next to him) football (soccer) teams are in 4th place in their respective leagues and they should be much higher. (They are Bayern Munich and Chelsea.)

Courtney donated as he was happy his food drive was underway and asked that any members attending lunch next week bring a non-perishable food item.

Kathleen was happy as she will be going to Disney in the near future.

Mike was happy that France had got rid of the carbon tax.

Dhanni was happy that Peter’s cataract surgery was successful.

Avrum was pleased that he had volunteered at the Auction.

Rocco was pleased that the Auction was now over.

Barry was happy that the Auction was ‘back’ as a fundraiser.

Arthur donated as he was pleased about the Auction as well.

Peter had two reasons to be happy – his cataract surgery was a success and the Auction was over.

Kevin told us he was now ‘acting treasurer for the Auction, so was able to ‘see’ all the cheques coming in.

1. She thanked Kathleen and Danny for managing our Facebook and Twitter sites. She also mentioned that Heather Lennie - a Rotaractor from the Rotary Club of Scarborough - helped us with Facebook. Danny mentioned that pictures from the GRID project we support are posted to both social media sites.

Editor's note: The club twitter site can be accessed using :

https://twitter.com/RCNorthScarboro?lang=en.

If you have a twitter account just "follow" RCNorthScarboro and updates will be sent to you by Twitter.

2. We're working on a "Speaker series" fundraiser. Targeting topical & controversial issues. Dave Hardy taking the lead.

3. We'd like to work on a service project - this is a focus of Rotary - and was included in our 2018-2019 objectives presented in July.

4. Starting January - the last week of the month - the lunch meeting will be replaced with a social in the evening. This would be a more "informal" Rotary meeting.

Membership:  Vice President Barry gave the report

We have 4 new members this year. Courtney Fisher, Avrum Liederman, Anthony Lippa and Jonathan Gibson (to be inducted in the New Year). Barry encouraged all of us to try and bring potential new members to a lunch.

Club Service - Gordon gave the report.

Club Service is responsible for the running of the club. This includes making sure the POD is prepared for the group who is scheduled for that month. This seems to be less onerous now that we are responsible for one month at a time, rather than two. The lunch venue has been a challenge. Gordon advised that it would probably be possible to have our meetings on Wednesdays (as we did before) which most people seem to prefer rather than Thursdays. We try and arrange for some kind of fellowship event most months. Starting in January President Donna (as already mentioned) is designating the last week of every month for a ‘social event’. So that may be a Pub night or perhaps some Rotary event such as the Paul Harris Scholarships. This month of course – next week in fact- we have the Christmas Party. When an invite is sent out for an event and a response is requested please respond - it literally takes less than a minute or slightly longer if you register a guest. It is extremely frustrating when you are trying to organize an event and you don’t know how many people will be coming.

We are always in need of speakers, so if you know of anyone who would like to speak to the club then please check with Kevin Manuel for available dates and let him know.
