Announcements:
- David Seemungal reminded us that there is a joint Scarborough Rotary Clubs’ family BBQ on August 25th from 2.00pm to 7.00pm at the Holy Trinity Church grounds 85 Livingston Parkway - Livingston and Guildwood Parkway. All family members are welcome. Rocco will be conducting the 50/50 draw, volunteers are needed to help with the clean-up afterwards and with other events. Bring lawn chairs and your own cutlery.
· Rocco announced there will be a Board Meeting at Peter Masson’s on Monday August 26th at 7.30pm. Peter advised that some ‘navigation’ would be required to get to his house as there are road works enroute. Their address is 49 Christina Falls Way and the gate house will be advised of your expected arrival.
Marbelous Draw was conducted by Joan, our guest Dana drew the winning ticket which was claimed by Peter Masson, but he was unable to find the mutant marble.
Sergeant-at-Arms:
FrankAllison fined anyone who had not attended a group meeting yet (everyone had!), as that reaped no $$ then he fined anyone who had not attended the BBQ on Friday or if they had if they had ‘more than their fair share of the 'drinks available’ – quite the collection was obtained from people confessing to that!!
Happy Bucks: In combination with the fine for over indulging many people gave happy bucks for a wonderful BBQ on Friday. Joan gave a contribution on behalf of Kevin as Kevin’s son is now attending university and has moved out and Kevin and Sharyn are now empty nesters just in time to finish the house. Peter Masson contributed as he will have reached his 78th birthday on Saturday.
Speaker:
David Seemungal introduced Dhanni Ramdeen who gave us a presentation of her trip to India with her son at the end of last year. They were away for 33 days and visited many cities including Old Delhi, New Delhi, Amritsar, Varanasi, Sarnath, Khajuraho, Orcha / Jhansi, Agra, Jaipur and many others which Dhanni didn’t have time to mention. They flew with Emirates Airlines and were very impressed – spotless washrooms and 500 movies to choose from in many different languages amongst other things. Dhanni reported that a lot of the cities had bad pollution and in Northern India the people tended to ‘ignore’ women. They stayed in North American chain hotels and in one instance were given the honeymoon suite with the one bed covered in rose petals which of course they had rectified straight away. A lot of the architecture of the buildings in the various cities was quite spectacular. All in all they had a great trip.
A recording of the presentation will be sent separately. Jacob thanked Dhanni for her presentation and presented her with ‘Rotary Water Bottles’ for her and her son.
Next Week: Laura Colangelo will report on her experience in Ottawa during her Adventure in Citizenship last year.
