North Scarborough Rotary Group 1 update, Sept 2013
Group 1, as you know, is responsible for the running of the club. Our lunch-time meetings are organized via the POD system which has been in place now for about 4 years and it is running well. It gets members more involved in the running of these meetings and everyone seems to agree that the quality of the speakers has improved since its implementation.
Of course we try to have some kind of fellowship event about every month. Last month (August) we had what we have now named the “Lifetime Achievement Award” party at Mike Mushet’s Yacht Club. This year it was in honour of Al McDougal – each year it will be in honour of one of our long serving members – most of them now being honorary members. We are trying to arrange the President’s Party at the Toronto Hunt Club for sometime in the Fall – once Charles is able to ‘pin down’ a date with Jacob! Camp Enterprise is in the latter part of October so we don’t want to arrange anything that will interfere with that. The Christmas Party is set for December 13th. Thank you Carolyn.
Within our group Kevin Manuel is the speaker co-ordinator. So, if you have any speakers you would like to invite to the club, contact Kevin and check what dates are available. Joan Manuel is the sick and visiting contact – so if you are aware of someone in the club who is ill or bereaved please contact Joan and she will arrange for a card to be sent and, if appropriate, flowers to be sent as well. If you wish to advertise on our website then Rocco is the person to contact for this.
We are in the process of setting up a survey through a program called Survey Monkey. The idea of this is to get club members to give us some feedback on what you like about the club, the things you think could be improved and any new ideas you might have. So when this is sent to you please take the time to respond.
Upcoming meetings are on the calendar on our website – so if any of you would like to attend the meetings then we would be pleased to see you – just let us know first.
Thank you.
Gordon Brown, Director, Group 1 (2013/14)
North Scarborough Rotary Group 2/3 Update, Sept 4/13.
We have hit the ground running this year.
With our group meetings scheduled for the year, and our POD duties for September and October posted, we are ready to turn our focus to “Camp Enterprise” and our “Warm Hands Project”.
We have been busy behind the scenes, and hope to pull “Camp Enterprise” together at our next meeting on September 9/13. It is essential that we move quickly, in order to get the students that we need, for the October 18-20 date.
We have put in place a team for our “Warm Hands Project” and plan to get them together at our next meeting, to divvy up the work load, and set the plan in motion. We want to have the gloves in place, long before”Old Man Winter “shows up.
We plan to send a candidate to “Adventures in Citizenship” in the spring, so please forward names of anyone that you know who might be interested in this amazing experience. At present, I am awaiting the application release,
Our “Paul Harris Scholarships” are in the capable hands of Peter Masson. He will be talking with the other clubs involved and we will keep you posted as to the when and where, as well as what further assistance we will need.
This year we will be looking into having an applicant attend RYLA. The program is usually run in May.At this time there is no information available.
We plan to continue supporting our community, as we have in the past. In addition, this year, we hope that we can find some local worthy projects to support. “The people who fall through the cracks”.
If you know of anyone who needs our help, please have them forward their request to Group 2/3 for consideration.
We have a great team.
Thank you Peter for standing in for me, I really appreciate it.
I look forward to working together in 2013/2014.
Carolyn Nicholson, Director, Group 2/3
