ANNOUNCEMENTS:

● Peter thanked all the members for their condolences as a result of the death of their granddaughter, Mackenzie.  The flowers that the club sent were beautiful and a number of members attended the visitations on Friday and others, the funeral on Saturday, even though Oakville and Mississauga seem to be a world away from the east end of Toronto.
● Dhanni Ramdeen has been appointed as the new Group 4 Director.
● Charles again brought to our attention that we have only a week to go to meet the deadline for submitting donations for the auction.
● Basil named a number of Rotary heros to-day who got out of bed very early and went to various GO Transit stations to meet the passengers with our message that Polio can be beaten.  Others went to the Scarborough Town Centre and proclaimed the same message for World Polio Day.
● Kevin Manuel reported on the Ice Wine Festival being planned for Jan 18 & 19th.  Two hotel overnights and meals out with vintage on ice and even a $50 pp spa credit during their visit to Niagara-on-the-Lake.  Price per couple $1,200.  Telephone 1-888-669-5566 to reserve. (Call Kevin if you do reserve)
● Rocco brought us news that the Twilight club will be having a fund raising dinner/dance at St. Dunstan of Canterbury hall, 56 Lawson Road Nov. 9 at 7:00 pm.  Tickets, $30 pp/ Deborah Cloakey will have tickets for you.

MARBELOUS DRAW

To-day it was Dhanni who was awarded the $5.00 prize but not much more.

SERGEANT AT ARMS:
Kevin Moore, our S @ A was determined to set a new record to-day.  All who had not participated in the World Polio Day event to-day were fined $5 and those who had not brought in any TV Auction items had their fines razed to $10.  All that was collected was to go toward the Polio Plus program. (Get out of jail free cards were to be considered a matter of conscience).
Gerd was happy for all the musical venues that he has been going off to including Bruce Springsteen and Barbra Streisand.
Jack Holman was exceedingly happy as his brother has been cleared of any cancer in his system.
Charles Whitney let the cat out of the bag that he and Shirley will be celebrating 60 years of marital bliss this weekend. (OK ,Shirley, I have embellished his claim just a bit!)

PROGRAM:

Al Meredith introduced Joan Manual as she gave us a slide show of her river cruise last June from Amsterdam to Budapest on the S.S. Avalon Luminary. She was one of 130 passengers on the river boat that ducked under the low lying bridges passing hundreds of castles and ancient cathedrals as they went down the famous Rhine river through Germany, Austria and Hungary.  Joan continued her tradition of donating two books to the ship’s library; these having both a Toronto and Canadian flavour.

(The recording will be sent out via e-mail and will be posted on our website for downloading).

Basil thanked Joan for taking the club on the cruise with her.
