Kevin Moore lead the meeting to-day as the club members celebrated Remembrance Day 2012 (prior to Nov 11th).  It was a solemn event as we remembered the sacrifices given by Canadians and others in the Great Wars WW I , WW 2, Korea, Bosnia, Afghanistan,  and of the many peace missions that we have been involved.  Slides were also projected of the battle scenes from WWI and WW 2. The meeting closed with the traditional music of the last post, The Flowers of the Forest and the Revelee.

Speakers during the meeting included Danny Cassidy as he recited (from memory) "Waltzing Matilda" and Peter Masson who recited "In Flanders Fields". Both described the background and context that each of these poems was written and their almost sacred importance to New Zealanders & Australians in the case of Matilda, and of Canadians for Flanders Fields.

Several members shared  memories of their families involved in several sides of the conflicts during the 20th Century. Our final prayer was that these terrible conflicts should never again occur in the 21st century.

Volunteers are needed to help with their delivery.  Please contact Frank Allison.
● Carolyn is arranging the club’s Christmas party at the Scarborough Golf & Country Club.  The date is Dec 14th at $55 pp.
● Charles reported on the donations situation. (Here is an update to Nov 8th) Total value of North Scarborough donations for auction: $31,704 and a total of 183 items).  Our club has provided 24.1% of the total 733 items listed.  East York is ahead of us with 35.1% .  It total those 733 items listed represent 80% of the total needed to fill all 922 bid slots for the auction period.

MARBELOUS DRAW:
Peter Masson took the bag of marbles to our distinguished honorary member, Al McDougall, who pulled two tickets out.  Fortunately, both belonged to Rocco but he received only $5 after making a protest that Peter was so busy putting the marbles back in the proper bag that he forgot to hand over the winnings .... for a brief moment.

SERGEANT AT ARMS:
Emmanuel was appointed S @ A today and he started to collect:
● From all who were happy that Obama had won his re-election. This did generate some agree/ disagree votes among the members and Basil reminded us that Rotary is supposed to follow the No religion, No politics, No cussing and No sex ... (why no sex?) rule.
● Notwithstanding that rule, Emmanuel was happy to donate to the pot because Obama had won the election.
● Charles was happy that we had done so well in soliciting gifts this year under more difficult circumstances this year.
