Announcements:

Basil Dias – Bob Butteral’s club is having a “Rum tasting” event on Nov 20^th.

Carolyn Nicholson – Christmas party is on Fri, Dec 13th at the Scarborough Golf club. Price is the same as last year - $55 pp. Notice will be out soon to sign up.

Marbelous Draw: Our president, Rocco was awarded the consolation prize of $5.

Sargeant at Arms – Alan Meredith

Alan announced that the Christmas card signing will be taking place starting Nov 20^th. He encourages all to sign up and donate. You will receive a tax deduction receipt for a minimum donation of $50. The proceeds will be used to purchase water filtration systems which cost $75 each. These units will be given to single families in Laos.

-      Jack Page celebrated his 68^th birthday

-      Kevin Moore is now the father of a 30 year old.

Program:

Carolyn Nicholson introduced Kevin Moore, the speaker of the day to celebrate Remembrance Day.

Kevin talked about the Canadian involvement in the Korean war 60 years ago when the conflict ended in July 1953.

Seeing that we did not have any war veterans at the meeting, Kevin asked the members to share their memories of the wartime and several of the members shared their wartime memories.

Kevin also talked about the falling soldiers of the Afghanistan War. He remembered one instance when a fallen soldier was brought back home, seeing a little girl in the vehicle following the hearse, and thinking about that little girl growing up without her dad. ..What a moving experience.

We broke for silence.

Kevin then called upon Jim Boyko to recite “In Flanders Field” poem.

Mike Mushet thanked Kevin to come out from his busy schedule and once again continue to do a better job each subsequent time.
