Announcements-
-Roland List was welcomed as the newest member of the club.
-President Rocco thanked the club for their sponsorship in the Foundation Walk, which will take place in Newmarket this year.
-Basil reminded us that there will be a joint networking meeting on October 4 from 6-8pm at Scarborough Golf and Country Club. Please confirm your attendance with Basil.
-Frank Allison relayed that the Rotary Picnic was a great success. Unfortunately, our club had not notified Dexter as to who would be attending. So many people attended the picnic that they ran out of food.
-Mike Mushet announced that there would be a Group 4 meeting September 17, 5pm on his boat.
Marbelous Draw- Roland List held the lucky ticket, but unfortunately the mutant marble proved elusive once more.
Sargeant at Arms- Jacob fined everyone who had not registered any items yet for the TV Auction $1 with the warning that the fine would grow each week.
-We were reminded that for a mere $100 we could purchase a pardon from fines for the year.
Happy Bucks-
-Gerd was happy that he was able to fix the damaged mirror on this new Range Rover. One of the many perks of his engineering background.
-Jack Holman was just glad to wake up on his birthday. He also was celebrating the fact that he passed his driver’s test.
-Basil was happy to be going to see a TFC game
-Basil informed us that John Tesh noted that there were three keys to a happy relationship.1- more cuddle time 2- separate bank accounts 3- alone time. Dorothy’s response to this was…1- check 2- check 3- she is going to St. Anne’s Spa for a couple of days.
-Jacob asked that we bring items, donations and sponsorships in ASAP. The warehouse is the same as last year and it will be open from 9-5pm Monday –Friday. November 1 is the cut-off for items.

Basil reported that unfortunately the Ribfest lost $10,000. Our share is $2,500. He accepts full responsibility as he had assured us of the Ribfest’s success. Basil offered to pay the $2,500 himself and he felt that the club only participated to support him.
Sponsorships are the key. They had a target of $80,000 but achieved only $17,000.
Beer sales were up almost double. They had more ribbers and they were happy with their sales.
Vendor sales were way up. An error was made, when they allowed the same midway to participate, even though they had not paid for the prior year and were teetering on bankruptcy.
Overall costs were consistent with past years.
They were able to give meals to the police as each of the ribbers donated 20 meal vouchers each.
Basil will not ask our club to participate again. Before he will even consider getting involved with the Ribfest, it must have $50,000 in sponsorships.
The Scarborough Rotary Clubs' new motto is “Act like Six, Work as One”.
President Rocco made a motion the club was responsible for the loss and that we would make up the shortfall. This was seconded by Carolyn Nicholson and passed by the club.
A number of the members felt that perhaps the shortfall could be off-set by private donations rather that out of club funds as had been previously promised by some of the membership.
Basil was thanked for all his hard work by the club.
