Attending: 17 members.

Announcements:

Jacob was hauled away from his lunch by President Rocco and was presented with a Presidential Citation to celebrate the club's successes during his year as President.

Jacob requested each of the TV Auction captains to report on their teams' results.  He indicated that at last count there were only 49 of the 509 items attributable to North Scarborough's efforts.  The total target for all involved had been 900 items.

Al Meredith, Caroline, Joan and Gordon reported on each of their team's inputs.

Kevin Manuel reported on the latest situation for the Auction administrators.  He said that to-date all clubs are reporting only 533 items of the 912 slots available for the auction.  Our club's contribution amounts to 94 or 58% of the 172 we reported last year.
But there is a little flexibility in the deadlines.  We have until Nov 8th which is the absolute last day for new entries.

Volunteers are needed for Blocking (Nov 6th) and Warehouse block assignments Nov 16th.  Both are Saturdays.

Kevin also reported that there is a possibility that the auction may be shown LIVE (but delayed 20 minutes) on Rogers web service.  It is the most popular program on Rogers community channel.

Kevin also reported that this would be the last year that Chef Frank would be cooking up the goodies enjoyed by all during the live auction.  Others will bee needed next year.

Gordon announced that Group 1 will meet at Basil's home on Monday Nov 4th

Carolyn announced that Group 2/3 will meet the same evening at David Hardy's home and that the mittens for the Warm Hands program are set to go to the elementary schools.

Basil reported that the recently held District Conference was "Fantastic".  The theme was "Back to the Future" and there was fantastic crown at Deerhurst Resort.
Next year the Conference will be held Oct 24-26 at the Weston Prince hotel in Toronto. Also the International Conference will be held in Sydney Australia Jan 1-4.

Marbelous Draw:

After much searching the winning ticket was found in Roland's pocket.  It only earned him $5 so the hunt for the mutant marble goes on and on.

Seargeant at Arms:

Jacob shifted to happy bucks after no one was prepared to admit to not submitting items for the auction.

Basil was happy to report that his credit rating has not yet been downgraded after five of hci cheques bounced due to certain administrative slips.  Bet the banks will get their pound of flesh!

Jim Boyko was happy that his friends and clients were able to deliver tickets for the auction.

Joan Manuel is happy that her mother long ago said rainbows often follow storms (my metaphor) so after a business slump she sold 2 homes and has now booked a trip to San Francisco.

Kevin Manuel was happy that we did have enough items (just enough) to go ahead with the auction.

Program Presentation:

Gordon Brown introduced Roland List, one of our newest members, but a seasoned Rotarian. He is Past President of the Don Mills Rotary Club (95/96), a Paul Harris Fellow for the past 10 years.  His full presentation is to be found on this link. His academic career, his research activities and his family were all topics included in his presentation.  You will get a real education in meteorology by listening to and watching his presentation. Hail and how it is created was the focus of much of his work.
