The speaker this week was David Seemungal. The topic – Rotary Foundation.

The mission of the Rotary Foundation is to promote goodwill and peace by engaging the service of Rotarians around the world.

There are six key areas of focus:

  • Peace and Conflict Prevention.
  • Water and Sanitation. Our club was involved in water projects in Nigeria, Peru and this year, in Laos.
  • Basic Education.  We are currently participating in a global grant with the Belleville club in the Amarok Society project in Bangladesh to bring education to women there.
  • Economic and Community development  - Our club was involved in providing funding to the people in Nunavut.
  • Maternal & Child health – Last year, our club completed a District grant supporting a maternal clinic in Uganda where pregnant mothers were provided with ultra sound testing to determine whether they are affected by the AIDS virus and treated.
  • Disease prevention and treatment – Our club continuous annual Polio Plus financial support.

The Foundation is asking every Rotarian to contribute $100.US every year to support the above mission. The money is distributed as follows:

  • 50% goes to the District Designated Fund.
  • 50% goes to the  World Fund

Thanks David for an informative presentation.
