Charles again brought to our attention that deadlines for the TV Auction are approaching, Nov 1st is the next deadline for items for the auction. We need to hear from a number of members who have been on the sidelines so far when we all should be on the playing field.
Next weekend is the District Conference for any who wish to attend but have not registered, so far.
Group 1 will have their next meeting Monday Oct 15th at 7:30 pm at Basil’s
He invited any and all in the club to attend but do call ahead so that refreshments will be available for all.
Basil read to us the letter received from the Fran Smith family thanking us all for the beautiful flower arrangement sent by the club, for the friendship and fellowship by members to Fran over the years. He cherished it and was deeply proud with what was accomplished as a team and the values that he held so dear.
MARBELOUS DRAW:
It was Charles’ turn to pull the mutant marble from the bag. But their was too many others for him to pull it out. So the $5 consolation prize was quickly returned to the treasury.
SERGEANT AT ARMS:
Kevin Moore, our S @ A began his attack on our wallets as a “ kinder, gentler” type of S@A than was his predecessor, Alan. He posed 3 questions to the meeting. It’s just that I forgot what they were!
But lots of happy bucks were collected:
• Joan for her first night of the curling season
• Dave Morrison for the success of the raffle and for the benefit to go to the water sanitation project for Panama
• Jack for return to almost perfect vision in his renewed eye.
• Michael Conway for attending the Scarborough U of T Rotaract club meeting and noting that the incoming President was one our Paul Harris scholars. They plan to start a new Interact club in at least one of the local high schools. That would make the Againcourt club a grandparent” and the North Scarborough club a “great grandparent”!
• Kevin Moore, who was the successful bidder on the auction furnace last year, was wondering if free service comes with that deal?
PROGRAM:
Rocco Colangelo introduced Dr. John Wright, President and CEO of the Scarborough Hospital. He trained for a career in medicine at U of T and later at Harvard Medical School. Finally he completed his MBA studies at the Rotman School of Business at U of T. He was appointed to his present position at the Scarborough Hospital in 2007 after seven years as VP Medical Affairs at the University Health Network. He has brought his vision of the future of the Scarborough Hospital in the constraints of limited budgets and expanding patient needs.
His talk was most informative and everyone who was unable to attend should listen to the recording of the presentation and the revealing Q & A session that followed. (The recording will be sent out via e-mail and will be posted on our website for downloading).
David Seemungal thanked Dr. Wright for his very important presentation and presented him with an Operation Eyesight certificate of the restored eyesight to a patient in India.

A Smile for your day:
A woman was trying hard to get the ketchup out of the jar. During her struggle the phone rang so she asked her 4-year-old daughter to answer the phone. "Mommy can't come to the phone to talk to you right now. She's hitting the bottle."
